Joyce Strong, R.N., B.S.N.
Joyce Strong, the mother of five children, has literally given birth to a hockey team! Originally from Somerville, MA, Joyce has resided for many years in Groton, MA where she coaches and plays hockey. Joyce has played at the recreational level hockey in the South Shore Women's League and with independent women's clubs, including the Nashua Lady Panthers in NH, and Sisu in Groton, as well as on adult teams through The Hockey Academy and with many non-league pickup hockey groups in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Joyce coaches at the mite, squirt, pee wee, bantum and high school levels and holds level 4 certification through USA Hockey. She will be attending the level 5 certification program in Rochester, NY in the summer of 2006. She is currently a coach in the Groton Junior Hockey Association in Groton, MA, and at Bishop Guertin High School Girls Varsity Hockey program in Nashua, NH.
A registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing and biopsychology, and a graduate of Tufts University and Simmons College, Joyce has an interest in strength and conditioning, nutrition and wellness. She trained for three years at Mike Boyle's Strength and Conditioning program in Winchester, MA and teaches strength and conditioning to her hockey teams.
Two of Joyce's children have attended Rochester Institute of Technology. They have also attended private prep schools including Groton School in Groton, MA, Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA and Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT.
A breast cancer survivor in since 2004, Joyce received the Pat Roberts Volunteer of the Year Award from Groton Junior Hockey for her courageous comeback after bilateral mastectomy and chemotherapy, and fulfilled her coaching and family responsibilities through it all.
Joyce is co-owner of PRN Transcription Services, a medical transcription business, and is a website publisher and designer, including www.GoBoston.com, www.SkateBoston.com, www.HockeyTilts.com, and www.TranscribeBoston.com, as well as others.
